Federal Government Awards N47 Million in Grants to 32 Innovators Across Nigeria

In a significant move to boost technological innovation across Nigeria, the Federal Government, through the Presidential Standing Committee on Innovation and Invention (PSCII), has awarded N47 million in grants to 32 inventors and innovators. This initiative spans the six geopolitical zones of the country, underscoring the government’s commitment to nurturing creativity and advancing technological progress.

During the grant award ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, highlighted the critical role of innovation in driving national development. Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Esuabana Asanye, the minister emphasized that the government’s initiative is not only about financial support but also about laying the groundwork for sustainable technological breakthroughs.

“These federal government grants to innovators are designed to enhance global competitiveness, create jobs, generate wealth, and improve the quality of life for all Nigerians,” Nnaji remarked. He urged the recipients to wisely utilize the funds, aiming to address pressing challenges such as unemployment and poverty.

The Minister further noted that over 600 inventors and innovators have benefited from this program since its inception. This continuous support reflects the government’s long-term vision of fostering a robust environment where innovation can thrive. Collaboration with the private sector, Nnaji added, is crucial in building a foundation for sustained technological advancement.

According to Mrs. Esuabana Asanye, who was represented by the Deputy Director in the Department of Technology Acquisition and Adaptation (TAA), Azuftama Dahiru, each of the 32 grant recipients received between one to five million naira. These funds are intended to support various innovative projects across the country, providing the necessary resources to bring groundbreaking ideas to fruition.

Dr. Patricia Chukwu, Director-General of the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), also stressed the importance of continuous innovation in achieving technological progress. She highlighted that these advancements are vital for Nigeria’s development, ensuring the country remains competitive on the global stage.

As the recipients embark on their projects, the government’s message is clear: the future of Nigeria’s technological landscape depends on the successful implementation of these innovations. The grants not only provide financial backing but also signify a broader commitment to nurturing talent and encouraging ingenuity across the nation.
