Yoruba Elders Urge Tinubu to Address Severe Hardship from Fuel, Food, and Power Shortages

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has expressed deep concerns about the worsening conditions in Nigeria, urging President Bola Tinubu to address the immediate needs of citizens. The Yoruba elders tell Tinubu that Nigerians are suffering deeply, with many struggling due to the lack of electricity, food, and fuel. The council emphasized that while long-term visions are essential, the government must focus on resolving short-term issues to ease the ongoing hardship.

In a statement delivered by YCE’s Secretary General, Chief Oladipo Oyewole, the elders urged the President to revisit his strategies and focus on providing immediate relief. They stressed that millions of Nigerians are enduring unbearable hardship, and addressing the shortage of basic needs like fuel and electricity should be the administration’s top priority.

The YCE, while acknowledging their optimism for a positive turnaround in Nigeria, noted that the available government actions seem insufficient to address the current crisis. “Without regular supply of electricity and with the recent increase in fuel prices, the situation has become even more unbearable for ordinary Nigerians,” they stated.

The council also criticized the current palliative distribution system, arguing that it has not effectively reached those most in need. Instead, the elders called for long-term solutions through effective governance that directly improves the quality of life for all citizens.

“The suffering is real—no light, no fuel, no food,” the statement read. The Yoruba elders tell Tinubu that there is an urgent need to re-strategize and focus on the immediate welfare of Nigerians while working towards a better future for the country.

Furthermore, the elders demanded swift and impactful actions to alleviate the burden on citizens. They emphasized that the government must act quickly to restore hope and ensure that Nigerians can live in dignity and comfort.

As Nigeria grapples with its current challenges, the YCE urged the Tinubu administration to stay committed to delivering the promises of democracy, ensuring that every Nigerian can benefit from the country’s shared resources.
