American Sentenced to 40 Years for Murder of Gokada Founder Fahim Saleh

Tyrese Haspil, a former assistant to Fahim Saleh, has been sentenced for the 2020 murder of the Nigerian tech entrepreneur


A US court has sentenced 25-year-old Tyrese Haspil to 40 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Nigerian tech entrepreneur, Fahim Saleh. Haspil, who had been sentenced for Fahim Saleh murder, worked as Saleh’s executive assistant and was found guilty of killing his former boss to cover up financial embezzlement.

The sentenced for Fahim Saleh murder ruling comes after a New York State Supreme Court jury convicted Haspil of the gruesome killing, which took place in Saleh’s Manhattan apartment in July 2020. Prosecutors revealed that Haspil had stolen nearly $400,000 from his employer and resorted to murder in an attempt to conceal his crime.

According to surveillance footage, Haspil attacked Saleh with a taser before stabbing him multiple times. He was later sentenced for Fahim Saleh murder after it was discovered that he also dismembered Saleh’s body in a bid to destroy evidence. The court found that Haspil had planned the crime to avoid detection of his financial misconduct.

Saleh, the founder and CEO of Nigerian ride-hailing company Gokada, was well known for his dedication to empowering Nigeria’s youth through technology. The sentenced for Fahim Saleh murder case has shocked many in both the tech and business communities, as Saleh was regarded as a visionary with a passion for helping others.
