APGA Leadership Crisis Escalates: Okorie Accuses Soludo of Sabotaging the Party

Founder Chekwas Okorie calls out Governor Soludo for undermining APGA’s leadership and disregarding court rulings

The leadership crisis within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has worsened, as the party’s founder, Chief Chekwas Okorie, accused Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, of undermining the party’s unity. Okorie expressed concerns over Soludo’s alleged interference in the internal affairs of APGA, particularly in the midst of an ongoing leadership tussle between Chief Edozie Njoku and Chief Victor Oye.
Okorie reaffirmed his support for the Supreme Court’s March 23, 2023, ruling, which recognized Chief Njoku as APGA’s legitimate National Chairman. He also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had endorsed this judgment, acknowledging Njoku’s rightful leadership. However, he criticized Governor Soludo for appointing Sly Ezeonwuka as the national chairman, despite court rulings that nullified such appointments.

Highlighting multiple court decisions, including rulings from the FCT High Court and the Court of Appeal, Okorie emphasized that Chief Njoku’s leadership had been repeatedly affirmed. He urged party members to stay loyal to the legitimate leadership of the party, warning that Governor Soludo’s actions could lead to lasting damage for APGA.

Quotes from Okorie:
“It’s painful to witness a progressive party being hijacked by political opportunists who have turned it into a cash cow. APGA is the only party where a Treasurer was imposed as national chairman without holding a national convention. This shows clear executive recklessness from a governor who pledged to uphold the constitution and rule of law.”

He further stated, “The faction within APGA believes money can buy everything, but true APGA members believe what God cannot do does not exist. Nigerians who love democracy should join in calling on Governor Soludo to step back and let APGA function without interference.”

Conclusion:
As the crisis deepens, Okorie’s accusations against Soludo add another layer of complexity to the leadership struggle within APGA. With multiple court rulings in favor of Njoku’s chairmanship, party members and stakeholders are left grappling with Soludo’s continued involvement in the party’s internal matters, raising concerns about the future of APGA under such conditions.
