Breaking: Nigeria’s Secret Police DSS Summons Lagos Group Convener Over $100 Million Land Deal

The Department of State Services (DSS) has summoned Comrade Jamiu Olayinka, a key member of the Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum, for questioning. This action follows the group’s lawsuit demanding accountability from the Lagos State government regarding a reported $100 million payment by Aliko Dangote for land acquisition.

On Thursday, Olayinka was directed to meet with DSS officials at 10:00 AM. Despite being asked to report immediately, Olayinka attended the meeting after consulting with his legal team and group members. The invitation was communicated to him by a DSS representative claiming to be the Director for Ibeju-Lekki.

Olayinka reported that during the meeting, DSS agents inquired about the case against Lagos State, to which he affirmed their right to sue. He presented their registered certificate from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), which seemed to surprise the officials. He relayed that the DSS’s intent was to coerce them into withdrawing from the lawsuit but emphasized their resolve to persist despite any intimidation.

Yakubu Eleto Chambers, representing the Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum, criticized the Lagos State Government for opting to use the DSS to exert pressure rather than addressing the transparency concerns raised in the lawsuit. Barrister Yakubu Eleto expressed frustration over the government’s failure to respond to a Freedom of Information request about the Dangote payment, leading to the court action seeking a Mandamus order to compel the state to disclose the required information.

The lawsuit, filed at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, requests detailed disclosure regarding the $100 million transaction and the lack of public statements on the matter. The court’s ruling will aim to clarify the circumstances of the payment and its implications for the Ibeju-Lekki community.
