Federal Government Declares September 16, 2024, as Public Holiday


The Nigerian government has set aside Monday, September 16, as a public holiday in honor of Eid-ul-Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).


The Federal Government has officially declared Monday, September 16, 2024, as an Eid-ul-Mawlid public holiday, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement from the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
The Eid-ul-Mawlid public holiday is a time for the Muslim Ummah to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Minister congratulated Muslims nationwide on the celebration and urged them to use the period to pray for lasting peace and the prosperity of the nation.

Furthermore, the minister encouraged Nigerians to embrace the values of patience, sacrifice, and resilience during the Eid-ul-Mawlid public holiday, emphasizing these as critical virtues in building a more united and equitable society.

By designating the Eid-ul-Mawlid public holiday, the government acknowledges the significance of this day to the Muslim community, while also reinforcing the message of peace and national solidarity.
