Wike: No Apologies for Threatening to Set Fire in PDP Governors’ States Over Rivers Crisis

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stands by his fiery remarks, refusing to apologize for warning governors not to interfere in Rivers State politics.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has made it clear that he will not apologize for his controversial threat to “set fire” in the states of governors who interfere in the political crisis unfolding in Rivers State. Wike’s bold statement follows the ongoing power struggle between him and Governor Sim Fubara over control of the political structure in the state.
The clash between Wike and Fubara has put the former Rivers State Governor at odds with some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, who have sided with Fubara in the dispute. Frustrated by their stance, Wike issued a stern warning, saying he would not hesitate to “put fire” in the states of any governor who meddled in Rivers State’s internal political affairs.

Wike made his unapologetic stance clear during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He reiterated that he stands by his earlier remarks, stating, “I said it to the Governors Forum, and I repeat without any apologies to anybody anywhere. Heaven will never fall; in fact, if heaven falls, there will be peace.”
Wike and Fubara’s rift has divided political loyalties within Rivers State, with many party members having to choose between the two. Wike’s remarks came after the PDP Governors Forum publicly voiced their support for Fubara, leading to the minister’s fiery response.

During the interview, Wike went further to question why he should remain silent while governors attempt to undermine his influence in his home state. “After your meeting, you come out on national television, as chairman of the forum, to read a communique about your ‘brother’ in Rivers State—whether legal or not—and I’m expected to fold my arms?” he said, referring to the forum’s public backing of Fubara.
Wike’s refusal to back down from his strong rhetoric highlights the deepening tensions within the PDP as the power struggle in Rivers State continues to escalate. His fierce independence and unapologetic stance will likely continue to stir debate within the party in the coming days.
