NSCDC Nabs 64-Year-Old Operator of Baby Factory in Abia

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abia State has arrested a 64-year-old man, Mr. Nnanna Michael, for allegedly running a baby factory and engaging in child trafficking. Michael, a native of Obinkita Arochukwu, was apprehended at his residence in Aba, Abia State, where illegal activities related to child trafficking were uncovered.

Acting on credible intelligence, the NSCDC raided the premises at Abanafo Street, Ariaria, Aba, where they rescued two women. Doris Nelson, 23, from Gombe State, and Ugochukwu Winner, 21, from Isinweke, Ihitte Uboma, Imo State, were found at the scene. Investigations revealed that Nelson had recently given birth on September 9, 2024, and sold her baby the following day to an unknown buyer. Winner, who is seven months pregnant, was being held with plans to sell her unborn child.

While addressing the media, Abia State NSCDC Commandant Usman Alfadarai confirmed the arrest and shared more details. “Michael, a former employee at a motherless home, confessed to harboring pregnant women, taking care of them until delivery, and selling their babies afterward,” he stated. He added that Michael had already sold one baby last year and two others this year before his arrest.

Nelson disclosed that she was introduced to Michael through a contact named Miracle, who brought her to Aba. She confirmed that after giving birth to a baby girl, Michael sold the child for N1.1 million, promising her N500,000. She had already received an initial payment of N100,000. Winner’s case was similar, as she was introduced to Michael by Evangelist First Samuel, who remains at large.

The command also discovered that Michael had been leveraging his former contacts from the motherless home to connect with buyers and sellers. “Our investigation shows that this illegal operation has been running for a long time,” Commandant Alfadarai stated.

The suspect, Michael, confessed to his involvement, expressing regret for his actions. “I have regretted this as it is not a good job to do,” he said.

The NSCDC has handed over the case to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further prosecution. The NSCDC also called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help curb such heinous crimes.
