Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmad donate ₦50 million to support Maiduguri flood victims

In response to the recent flood disaster in Borno State, Obi and Baba-Ahmad donate N50m to Maiduguri flood victims, demonstrating their commitment to aiding those affected by the tragedy. The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmad, made the donation during a visit to Maiduguri, where they sympathized with the victims and pledged further support.

The visit was organized by the Labour Party leadership and the Obidient Movement, led by Obi and Baba-Ahmad, accompanied by the National Chairman of the party’s caretaker committee, Senator Nenadi Usman, and other top officials. Obi and Baba-Ahmad’s N50m donation to Maiduguri flood victims was announced as an initial contribution to the emergency relief fund set up by the Borno State government to provide aid to those displaced by the disaster.

A statement from the Peter Obi Media Reach, issued by spokesman Ibrahim Umar, highlighted that this was only the first step in their efforts to support the people of Borno. The N50 million donation by Obi and Baba-Ahmad comes as part of a broader initiative to assist the victims of the floods, which have submerged a large portion of Maiduguri, leaving thousands displaced.

During their visit, Obi, Baba-Ahmad, and the Labour Party delegation met with key figures including Governor Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, His Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi. They also toured flood-stricken areas, including an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp at Government College, where they engaged with residents affected by the tragedy. Obi and Baba-Ahmad’s donation to the flood victims is seen as a meaningful gesture of solidarity with the people of Borno as they navigate the aftermath of the floods.

In addition to financial support, Obi and Baba-Ahmad assured the people of Maiduguri that the Labour Party remains committed to standing by them in their recovery efforts. Obi and Baba-Ahmad’s N50m donation to Maiduguri flood victims is just one part of their larger pledge to continue providing aid, as the state works to rebuild after the devastating floods.
