APC’s Okpebolo Leads as INEC Collation Centre Breaks for Result Updates

The Edo governorship election results are shaping up, with the APC’s Monday Okpebolo currently in the lead as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared results for 16 out of 18 local government areas. Voters participated in this highly anticipated election held across 4,519 polling units, showcasing the democratic engagement of over 2.2 million voters who collected their PVCs.

After months of intense campaigning, the electoral battle has seen candidates from 17 parties competing for leadership, including major contenders like Asue Ighodalo from the PDP and Olumide Akpata from the Labour Party. The election’s outcome will determine who succeeds Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose term ends in November.

As of now, the collation centre in Benin City has temporarily paused operations, set to resume at 5 PM to accommodate results from the remaining local government areas. Meanwhile, supporters of the PDP have expressed discontent, gathering at the INEC headquarters to protest the ongoing result collation.

In specific local government results, the APC has recorded significant victories, with Okpebolo leading in key areas such as Etsako West and Owan East. For instance, in Etsako West, the APC garnered 32,107 votes against the PDP’s 17,483.
