The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of exerting pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Anugbum Onuoha, to suspend the collation of results from the recent governorship election.
According to PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba, intelligence reports suggest that the APC is attempting to manipulate the INEC Portal to replace authentic results with falsified figures that favor their party. The PDP urged INEC to resist these pressures and maintain the integrity of the results as reported from the polling units.
The PDP further alleged that the APC is seeking to influence military personnel to withdraw from their posts, potentially allowing armed individuals to disrupt the collation process. They warned that any attempt to alter the election results would provoke a strong response from the electorate, who have access to authentic results from polling units across Edo State.
As of 2:00 AM on Sunday, INEC reported that it had uploaded results from 4,435 of the 4,519 polling units on its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), indicating that over 98% of the results have been accounted for.
Analysts describe the election as a three-horse race among PDP’s Asue Ighodalo, APC’s Monday Okpebholo, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, amidst growing tensions surrounding the election process.
