FEC Okays Construction of 40 Residences for Justices and Judges in Abuja

Federal Executive Council (FEC) approves housing development in Kantampe for judiciary members under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a significant move to enhance judicial welfare, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has sanctioned the construction of 40 houses for justices and judges in Abuja. This project, which falls under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is designed to provide secure and comfortable living conditions for members of the judiciary in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The announcement was made by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, following a recent FEC meeting led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Wike highlighted that the housing for justices and judges in Abuja will be located in the Kantampe district, with 20 units reserved for the FCT High Court, 10 for the Federal High Court, and 10 for the Court of Appeal. The project is scheduled for completion within 15 months.

Wike emphasized that the decision to construct these homes stems from the administration’s commitment to providing safe and dignified housing for judicial officers, many of whom currently reside in rented apartments or hotels. “It’s crucial to offer adequate housing for justices and judges in Abuja,” he noted, citing safety and convenience concerns.

In addition to the housing for justices and judges in Abuja, the government has approved several infrastructure projects to improve access to these new judicial quarters. These include the construction of roads leading to the housing area and within the quarters themselves, ensuring ease of travel for the judiciary.

The project is part of a broader infrastructure development plan for the FCT, which also includes the construction of over 75 kilometers of roads in satellite towns like Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Bwari. Wike further disclosed that the FEC had terminated an earlier contract for the development of the Maitama 2 area due to delays, with plans to relaunch the project soon.

This initiative underscores the administration’s dedication to addressing the housing for justices and judges in Abuja, while also tackling wider infrastructure issues in the capital.
