FG Increases NYSC Corps Members’ Allowance to N77,000 Effective July 2024

The Federal Government has raised the monthly allowance for corps members from N33,000 to N77,000, following the National Minimum Wage Amendment Act

The FG increases corps members’ allowance to N77,000 per month, a significant boost from the previous N33,000, as announced by the Federal Government. This raise, which took effect in July 2024, is a direct result of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024.

Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), confirmed the development in a statement released on Wednesday. The adjustment followed advocacy efforts by the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, who sought better welfare provisions for corps members during his visit to the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission.

The letter confirming the new allowance was signed by the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, Mr. Ekpo Nta, and dated 25th September 2024. It outlines the FG’s commitment to improving the welfare of corps members nationwide, a move that is expected to lift morale and enhance productivity.

Before the increase, the monthly allowance for corps members was N33,000. The FG increases corps members’ allowance as part of efforts to align with the newly amended National Minimum Wage Act, providing much-needed financial relief to those serving the nation.

General Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the timely decision, emphasizing that this raise would motivate corps members to continue contributing significantly during their mandatory service year. The improved allowance is expected to positively impact the performance and dedication of corps members across Nigeria.
