FG Launches Probe into Alleged Bribery and Corruption in Nigerian Prisons Involving Bobrisky

The Federal Government has ordered an investigation into reports of corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service, following allegations involving Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky

The Federal Government has launched a comprehensive investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), following claims that popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, did not serve his jail term within the correctional facility.

This directive was issued by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement on Wednesday through his media aide, Babatunde Alao. The probe follows reports that Bobrisky, who was sentenced to prison earlier this year, allegedly avoided serving his time in the correctional centre by staying in a rented apartment near the facility.

The allegation surfaced after a leaked audio recording by social critic Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), went viral. In the audio, a voice believed to be Bobrisky’s can be heard recounting how a powerful godfather called a senior officer in the prison service, who then arranged for the crossdresser to stay in an apartment outside the prison walls.

Reacting to these disturbing claims, Minister Tunji-Ojo vowed that any form of misconduct, unprofessionalism, or corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service would be met with severe consequences. He emphasized the ministry’s zero-tolerance stance on any compromise of its core values, including integrity, transparency, and accountability.

“We will leave no stone unturned in rooting out corruption and ensuring that those found guilty face the full wrath of the law,” the statement read.

To ensure a thorough investigation, the minister has appointed a special investigative team, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. The team has been tasked with probing the allegations and submitting a detailed report on the findings.

The minister also assured the public that the investigation will be conducted with utmost rigor, transparency, and impartiality, and appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against any personnel found culpable. This move underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the Nigerian correctional system.
