Sanusi Denies Jonathan’s Claim, Reasserts His Dismissal as CBN Governor

In a recent exchange, Sanusi dismissed as CBN Governor has resurfaced as the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, refuted former President Goodluck Jonathan’s narrative regarding his exit from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Sanusi, who had previously claimed that his dismissal stemmed from exposing corruption within the government, reaffirmed that he was not merely suspended for investigation, as Jonathan suggested, but was outright dismissed.

During the launch of the book “Public Policy and Agents Interests: Perspectives From The Emerging World,” co-authored by Sanusi and Dr. Shamshudeen Usman, the former Planning Minister in Jonathan’s administration, Jonathan countered Sanusi’s long-standing assertion. The former president insisted that Sanusi was suspended to allow for an investigation into alleged missing $49.8 billion during his tenure as CBN Governor.

However, Sanusi, in response to Jonathan’s remarks, maintained that he was “constructively dismissed,” not suspended. He emphasized his respect for Jonathan despite their differing recollections of the event, saying, “My boss who sacked me, I was constructively dismissed. I continue to respect Jonathan and hold no grudges against anyone.”

Sanusi’s dismissal as CBN Governor remains a point of contention, particularly because he had been vocal about irregularities he uncovered during his time in office. His claims of exposing corruption contributed to the tension that culminated in his removal, a situation he has consistently attributed to his outspokenness.

By reasserting that Sanusi was dismissed as CBN Governor, the Emir of Kano continues to stand by his position that his removal was tied to his efforts in combating alleged misconduct at the highest levels of government.
