Ugochinyere Urges PDP & Opposition Governors to Stand in Solidarity with Governor Fubara Amid Rivers LG Election Crisis

Imo Ugochinyere calls on PDP governors to fly to Rivers State and show public support for Governor Fubara during political tensions

Imo Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives member for Ideato North and South, has called on governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to publicly support Governor Siminalayi Fubara as political tensions escalate ahead of the October 5 local government election in Rivers State. In a passionate statement on Friday, Ugochinyere urged PDP governors to fly to Rivers and stand side by side with Governor Fubara during this critical period.

The PDP chieftain expressed disappointment that no PDP governor has shown visible support for Governor Fubara, despite the mounting crisis. Ugochinyere emphasized that supporting Governor Fubara during the Rivers LG election crisis would demonstrate solidarity and a commitment to defending democracy.

“Serious opposition governors should have already flown to Rivers State to stand with Governor Fubara in a show of strong solidarity. The right of Rivers people to vote is under attack from federal agents, and instead, you are being passive. Stop making the opposition look weak,” Ugochinyere said.

Ugochinyere further urged the PDP and opposition governors to be present in Rivers State, standing firmly with Fubara, who has shown remarkable courage in the face of threats from police and political forces in the state. He warned that the same political interests threatening Rivers State could soon extend their influence to other states governed by the opposition.

“Those attacking democracy in Rivers today could target your states tomorrow. What you do now will either protect or harm our democracy. The failed attempt by the police to remove electoral materials ahead of the LGA election is treasonous. We need strong condemnation and real leadership from opposition governors,” he stated on his X handle.

Ugochinyere’s call comes as tensions rise in Rivers State, with Governor Fubara standing firm in his resolve to ensure the LG election proceeds fairly, despite the political challenges he faces.
