Nigerian Students in London Demand Reversal of Tinubu’s Economic Policies, Call for Protesters’ Release

Nigerian and foreign students rally in London, urging the reversal of Tinubu’s ‘anti-poor’ policies and the release of detained protesters

A coalition of Nigerian and foreign students gathered outside the Nigerian High Commission in London on Saturday, demanding the reversal of Tinubu’s anti-poor policies. The demonstrators, organized by the socialist student group ‘Fight for Socialism,’ voiced their concerns over policies they believe are disproportionately harming Nigeria’s poorest citizens.

The protesters, composed of both Black and White students, held placards calling for the immediate release of those arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests. Their signs read slogans such as “Drop all charges and release protesters” and “Reverse all anti-poor policies.”

In addition to demanding the release of detained protesters, the students focused on urging President Bola Tinubu to reverse policies that have been criticized for exacerbating poverty and inequality in Nigeria. According to the protesters, the reversal of Tinubu’s anti-poor policies is essential to addressing the economic struggles faced by millions of Nigerians.

The protest took place in central London at WC2N 5BX, with demonstrators rallying for justice and policy reforms that prioritize the welfare of the Nigerian people. The students believe that without a swift reversal of Tinubu’s anti-poor policies, the socioeconomic gap in Nigeria will only widen, leaving the most vulnerable citizens behind.
