2027 Presidential Bid: Kwankwaso Offers to Be Peter Obi’s Running Mate if……

Labour Party welcomes Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s offer to join Peter Obi as his running mate in the 2027 presidential elections, two years after previous failed merger talks

In a surprising political development ahead of the 2027 elections, Kwankwaso offers to be Obi’s running mate, signaling a renewed possibility of collaboration between the Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who ran for president in 2023, has publicly expressed his willingness to serve as Peter Obi’s vice-presidential candidate, provided certain conditions are met. This offer comes nearly two years after their earlier merger talks collapsed due to leadership disputes, sparking hope for a potential alliance in the upcoming presidential race.

In a viral video, Kwankwaso offers to be Obi’s running mate but emphasized that discussions would only progress if trust could be built between both parties. Kwankwaso, who boasts significant political experience and educational achievements, stated, “I have no problem serving as Peter Obi’s deputy, but certain conditions must be met.” Despite referring to himself as more experienced and influential, he acknowledged the potential of a partnership with Obi.

Reflecting on the 2023 election results, where Kwankwaso offers to be Obi’s running mate, Kwankwaso finished fourth with approximately 1.5 million votes, while Obi secured third place with over 6 million votes. Despite their differences, Kwankwaso criticized the current administration under President Bola Tinubu, particularly its economic policies, which he claims have worsened the situation for many Nigerians.

In response to Kwankwaso offering to be Obi’s running mate, the Labour Party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk, expressed optimism about the potential collaboration. However, he cautioned Kwankwaso against claims of superiority due to his political experience or education. Farouk stressed that unity and cooperation between Obi and Kwankwaso would be crucial in their efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.

Farouk concluded by urging politicians to consider the changing political landscape, stating that while 2023 was a learning experience, 2027 presents a new opportunity. Kwankwaso’s offer to be Obi’s running mate may just be the beginning of a broader strategy aimed at uniting opposition forces against the current government.
