Prospects of Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance Ahead of 2027 Elections Will Fail….APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence that the proposed political alliance between Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party will not succeed in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking in an interview with The PUNCH, Bala Ibrahim, the APC National Publicity Director, indicated that the party is unperturbed by the alliance and believes it will face the same challenges that led to its collapse in 2023.

Ibrahim attributed the repeated failure of this coalition to a lack of mutual trust between Obi and Kwankwaso, stating that neither politician would be willing to step down from their presidential ambitions. “The underlying issue here is trust. Both leaders are focused on leading the country, but neither is prepared to let go of their ambition,” Ibrahim noted.

Kwankwaso had recently expressed his willingness to serve as Obi’s running mate under certain undisclosed conditions, a move welcomed by the Labour Party. However, APC’s Ibrahim reiterated that the same factors that hindered their previous attempt would persist, ensuring that the alliance would not pose a threat to the APC’s hold on power in 2027.

“This is merely political noise in response to the progress the APC is making. The proposed alliance is destined to fail just like it did before,” Ibrahim added.

In contrast, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the possibility of an Obi-Kwankwaso collaboration, emphasizing the need for opposition parties to unite against the ruling APC government to address the hardships Nigerians currently face.
