Edo Government Requests Transition Team Formation from Governor-Elect Okpebholo, APC

The Edo State Government has formally requested Senator Monday Okpebholo and APC to establish a transition team to ensure a smooth transfer of power

The Edo State Government has officially written to the governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), requesting the formation of the Edo State transition team. This move is aimed at ensuring a smooth and seamless handover from the outgoing administration led by Governor Godwin Obaseki. The letter, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Joseph Eboigbe, emphasized the need for a collaborative effort between both teams to enable meaningful discussions and the exchange of critical information.

Dated October 10, 2024, the letter outlined that the creation of the Edo State transition team would allow both the incoming and outgoing administrations to work together in an organized manner. “It is essential to establish a smooth and effective collaboration between your team and our current administration,” the letter stated. This step is viewed as crucial for maintaining governance continuity during the transition.

Governor Obaseki had earlier, in July, inaugurated a 20-member transition committee headed by Joseph Eboigbe, who was then serving as the Special Adviser on Finance. Now holding the position of Secretary to the State Government, Eboigbe remains a key figure in facilitating the transition process.

The letter further proposed that October 14, 2024, be the date for the inaugural meeting between both transition teams. This meeting is expected to set the stage for a coordinated handover of responsibilities. The Edo State transition team is tasked with ensuring that the incoming administration is fully briefed on governance matters to enable a smooth start to the new government.

While the Edo government has reached out, the APC and Senator Okpebholo have yet to officially respond to the request. It remains to be seen whether the party will honor the invitation to initiate the transition team as proposed by the state government.

The establishment of the Edo State transition team is not only a formality but also a key process in fostering good governance. Both the outgoing and incoming administrations are expected to work closely to meet the expectations of Edo’s constituents.
