These are those Managing The Nigeria’s Affairs as Tinubu and Shettima Remain Overseas

Despite the absence of Nigeria’s President and Vice President, Senate President Akpabio and top officials maintain leadership responsibilities

In the ongoing absence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, leadership during Tinubu and Shettima’s absence remains a topic of national discussion. The Presidency has named Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and the country’s ministers as those responsible for managing Nigeria’s affairs while the president and vice president are abroad.

Amid public concerns about the stability of the nation’s leadership, the Presidency has reassured citizens that there is no vacuum in governance. In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, it was emphasized that leadership during Tinubu and Shettima’s absence remains effective, as all state organs continue to function normally.

This is not the first instance where the country’s top leaders have been out of the country simultaneously. Drawing parallels to the previous administration, the Presidency recalled that a similar scenario occurred when former President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were abroad. Despite their absence, government operations were not disrupted, demonstrating the resilience of Nigeria’s governance structure. The current situation with leadership during Tinubu and Shettima’s absence similarly follows this established precedent, ensuring that the machinery of government operates smoothly.

President Tinubu is currently on a two-week working vacation, while Vice President Shettima is engaged in an official visit to Sweden. The Presidency has reiterated that the duties of the nation’s leadership are not tied to their physical presence, citing the Constitution as a flexible guide in modern governance.
