Governor Alex Otti lifts employment embargo to reward Paralympic athletes with jobs and over N75 million in cash gifts

In a remarkable show of support, Abia Paralympic athletes were rewarded with employment and cash gifts by Governor Alex Otti for their outstanding performance in both national and international competitions. The governor, who made the announcement during a reception held at his residence in Isialangwa South, praised the athletes for bringing pride to the state and underscored his commitment to uplifting sports talents in Abia.

Speaking at the event, Governor Otti highlighted that these Abia Paralympic athletes rewarded with employment and cash gifts will benefit from the lifting of the state’s employment embargo, a decision he made to prevent them from seeking opportunities elsewhere, either abroad or in other states. Otti stated, “This is one of the happiest moments in my tenure, and we cannot afford to lose such talents.”

The governor further emphasized that Abia Paralympic athletes rewarded with employment and cash gifts would receive more than just job offers. He also announced a cash reward totaling N75 million, including N20 million for international champions Onyinyechi Gift Mark and Esther Nworgu, who excelled in powerlifting. Other athletes and their coaching crew will share the remaining sum, with the coaches receiving N22 million.

Governor Otti reassured the athletes that the state government would address the infrastructural challenges they raised. As part of his promise to further boost sports development, he pledged to upgrade the Office of the Director of Sports and ensure the delivery of a brand-new Coaster Bus before November ends.

Additionally, Governor Otti extended his support to former Super Eagles legend, Christian Chukwu, committing to provide him with top-tier medical attention to restore his health.

The governor’s initiative to reward Abia Paralympic athletes with employment and cash gifts is expected to boost their morale and keep talented athletes within the state, creating a strong sports community in Abia.
