Again Wike Launches Attack on Atiku, Claims He Has Lost Political Relevance

Nyesom Wike attacks Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of losing political influence after repeated electoral failures

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has launched a fresh attack on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, asserting that the former Vice President has lost political relevance due to his repeated electoral failures. Wike claims that Atiku’s consistent losses in national elections demonstrate a clear rejection by the Nigerian people. In his words “I hear Atiku said that they have rejected me in Rivers State. You, who have contested and failed woefully, Nigerians have rejected you; therefore, go back home”.

Reacting to a recent comment made by Atiku on his X handle, where the former presidential candidate suggested that Wike had been rejected by the people of Rivers State, Wike responded sharply. He stated that his party did not contest the local government elections, making Atiku’s remarks baseless. Wike claims that if anyone has been rejected, it is Atiku, who has failed in several attempts to win the presidency.

Addressing the accusation, Wike said, “We never contested the local government elections. Did we pick forms? Yet Atiku Abubakar claims the people of Rivers State rejected me. Even if I had lost many times, it is clear that Nigerians have also rejected him. He should pack up and go home.”

Wike’s comments further escalate the long-standing political rivalry between the two politicians, which began after the PDP’s 2022 presidential primaries. The feud has since spilled into public debates, with each side trading accusations of irrelevance and failure.

This recent clash highlights the ongoing tensions within the Nigerian political landscape, where personal grievances often shape political discourse. While Wike claims Atiku’s political relevance has diminished, both leaders continue to be influential figures within their respective political circles.
