The United States chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has filed a petition with the National Working Committee (NWC), requesting an investigation into Senator Ajibola Bashiru, the party’s National Secretary, for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities. The petition, dated October 21, 2024, is titled “Petition Against Sen Ajibola Bashiru For Anti-Party Activities” and was submitted through the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
The APC-USA accused Senator Bashiru of supporting fraudulent individuals and holding secret meetings with impostors in the U.S., while disregarding the legitimate leaders of APC-USA. According to the party leadership, last year, Tunde Doherty, a member of APC-UK, recruited Tai Balofin, who falsely declared himself as the National Chairman of APC-USA. Doherty allegedly sought to create division within APC-USA to punish its legitimate leaders, Professor Adesegun Labinjo and Honorable Judge Dele Alade, for reasons unknown.
The petition, signed by senior APC-USA officials, claims that Senator Bashiru’s open support for these impostors is a betrayal of those who have worked diligently to maintain the integrity of the party since 2013. They called on the NWC to investigate Senator Bashiru’s involvement and warned against allowing any further fraudulent activities to tarnish the party’s reputation.
The petition also highlighted the potential embarrassment such actions could cause to the party’s leadership, urging the NWC to stop any illegitimate congress from being organized in the U.S. by individuals of questionable character. The APC-USA warned that failure to address these issues could force them to take further steps to protect the integrity of the party and its members.
In their appeal to the NWC, the APC-USA emphasized the importance of transparency and consistency in party affairs, stressing that rewarding bad behavior would undermine the party’s developmental goals. The chapter reiterated its commitment to supporting the investigation and called for swift action to resolve the issue.
