PDP Reconciliation Committee to Brief NWC Ahead of National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting
Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to meet in Abuja today, Tuesday, in a critical gathering ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday. The meeting will focus on key party issues, including the findings and recommendations of the Olagunsoye Oyinlola-led PDP Reconciliation Committee.
The Reconciliation Committee, which convened at the PDP National Secretariat on Monday, is expected to present its finalized report to the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Amb. Umar Damagum. The NWC will review the report before presenting it to the NEC for ratification.
Speaking after a lengthy meeting with the PDP National Assembly Caucus, Oyinlola stated, “Our goal is to unite the party. We’ve had productive discussions and gathered insights that will help strengthen the PDP as we head into future elections.” He further emphasized the importance of unity within the party to secure political victories.
The upcoming Ondo Governorship election was also a significant topic of discussion. Oyinlola confirmed that the committee has already toured the South-West and is working on strategies to bolster the party’s chances in the election.
In response to speculation about possible suspensions within the party, Oyinlola dismissed the rumors, saying, “For now, it’s just a rumor. We will meet with the NWC tomorrow, and further clarity will be provided afterward.”
The PDP Governors Forum meeting today will also deliberate on whether the NEC meeting scheduled for Thursday will go ahead as planned or if a new date will be set. The Governors are expected to discuss key agenda items for the NEC meeting, alongside strategies to strengthen party cohesion amid ongoing internal challenges.
This meeting comes at a time when the PDP is striving to recover its political footing and ensure unity within its ranks ahead of critical electoral battles.
