An Official Statement from the Presidency on Recent Cabinet Changes
In a recent clarification regarding the cabinet reshuffle in Nigeria, the Presidency has stated that the ministers were “discharged,” rather than “sacked,” as suggested in some reports. This announcement comes in light of President Bola Tinubu’s decision to restructure his cabinet, a move that has garnered significant public interest.
Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, addressed the media during an interview with TVC, asserting that the term “sacked” misrepresents the nature of the ministers’ departure. He emphasized, “Ministers were not sacked; they were discharged,” underlining a difference in terminology that reflects a more structured transition.
The cabinet reshuffle resulted in the exit of seven ministers, coinciding with the appointment of seven new nominees to various positions. Those affected include Uju-Ken Ohanenye, who previously served as Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, the former Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, who headed the Ministry of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim, who was in charge of Youth Development.
This significant reshuffling indicates President Tinubu’s strategic approach to governance, aiming to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of his administration.
As the government continues to navigate various challenges, these changes reflect an ongoing commitment to adapting leadership roles to meet Nigeria’s evolving needs.
