GoTV Users Demand Compensation After Service Outage Causes Channel Blackout

GoTV subscribers, especially football fans, express frustration over missing channels and demand refunds following an unexpected service disruption

GoTV subscribers demand compensation for service outage and missing channels, especially those who rely on the prepaid satellite service for sports and entertainment. On Tuesday night, several football enthusiasts across Nigeria experienced the frustration of having key channels disappear, just as the Champions League resumed.

The sudden shutdown of channels left many subscribers, particularly football fans, in disbelief. As matches between Europe’s top clubs kicked off, viewers using GoTV were stunned when channels such as SS Football Africa, SS La Liga Africa, and ESPN vanished. This led to a wave of complaints, with GoTV subscribers demanding compensation for the inconvenience caused.

Investigations revealed that the disruption was due to a technical issue with Intelsat 33e, a satellite that serves many regions, including Africa. Multichoice, GoTV’s parent company, confirmed that they were affected by this issue but assured users that they were working to restore services as quickly as possible.

Subscribers like Adebola Oluwatosin, an avid Real Madrid fan, voiced their displeasure, calling for compensation for the loss of access. “I just paid for a subscription, and then this happens. We deserve a refund or an extension of service time for the days we missed,” Oluwatosin stated.

Despite promises from Multichoice to resolve the issue, GoTV subscribers remain frustrated, with many demanding that the service provider offer clearer communication and solutions to avoid such disruptions in the future.
