PDP youth group condemns continued attacks on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, urges focus on accountability and governance
In a strong message, the youth division of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a cautionary statement directed at Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Representative Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who they claim have orchestrated continuous efforts to undermine Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The group, identifying itself as the PDP National Progressive Youth Initiative, openly condemned these alleged actions, warning that they will no longer tolerate further hostilities toward Wike, who they describe as a dedicated public servant and valuable asset to Nigeria.
The group’s statement came in response to recent allegations by Ugochinyere, a member of the opposition in the House of Representatives. Ugochinyere had accused Wike of maneuvering to prevent Governor Fubara from accessing state resources through a series of court actions, which he attributed to a faction within the PDP aligned with Wike and supported by the APC. He further appealed to President Bola Tinubu to address Wike’s alleged influence on judicial matters.
The PDP youth group, however, sees this as an unwarranted attempt to evade accountability, stating that both Governor Fubara and Representative Ugochinyere appear more interested in evading public scrutiny than fulfilling their roles transparently. The group also urged the people of Ideato Federal Constituency to remind Ugochinyere of his legislative responsibilities, suggesting that he focus on issues pertinent to his constituents rather than targeting Wike.
Warning of potential consequences, the PDP youth faction stated they may resort to a public demonstration at the National Assembly if Speaker Tajudeen Abbas does not intervene to curb what they term as Ugochinyere’s “unparliamentary conduct” toward Wike. They emphasized that Wike’s work in the FCT aligns with the development goals of President Tinubu’s administration and should not be subject to politically motivated criticisms.
Through this stance, the PDP National Progressive Youth Initiative has drawn a clear line, signaling their readiness to defend Wike’s efforts while calling for a renewed focus on responsible governance and accountability within the party’s ranks.
