Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced a major shake-up in his administration, relieving several key officials of their duties. On Thursday, December 12, the governor dismissed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, citing health reasons for the decision.
In addition, the governor abolished the office of the Chief of Staff, previously occupied by Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi. The restructuring also saw the removal of five commissioners:
1. Ibrahim Jibril Fagge – Finance Ministry
2. Ladidi Ibrahim Garko – Culture and Tourism
3. Baba Halilu Dantiye – Information and Internal Affairs
4. Shehu Aliyu Yammedi – Special Duties
5. Abbas Sani Abbas – Rural and Community Development
Reshuffle for Strategic Realignment
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the changes are part of a strategic political realignment aimed at enhancing the administration’s performance. The statement emphasized that the reshuffle will optimize the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Kano State.
Governor Yusuf has directed the dismissed Chief of Staff and commissioners to report to the governor’s office for possible reassignment, indicating that the changes might involve redeployment rather than outright termination.
Immediate Effect
The cabinet reshuffle takes immediate effect as the governor seeks to reposition his administration for improved governance. The move is expected to streamline operations and bolster efforts to meet the developmental needs of Kano State.
This development marks a significant shift in the state’s executive council and signals Governor Yusuf’s commitment to addressing political and administrative challenges during his tenure.
