Edo First Lady Betsy Obaseki Responds to Oshiomhole’s Claims About Childlessness

Betsy Obaseki clarifies her family’s situation and addresses Adams Oshiomhole’s comments on her and Governor Obaseki’s personal lives.

In a recent statement, Betsy Obaseki responds to former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s claims that she and her husband, Governor Godwin Obaseki, are childless. Oshiomhole had suggested that the Obasekis do not love children and criticized them for not adopting.

Addressing a Zoom meeting with Edo women in the diaspora, Betsy Obaseki refuted Oshiomhole’s remarks, revealing her own struggles with miscarriages and stillbirths. She emphasized that she has conceived and experienced the profound pain of losing babies, describing her journey as one of enduring challenges rather than barrenness.

“My words of comfort to you, like myself, who have conceived and experienced miscarriages, painful stillbirths, and evacuations of babies who died in our wombs, is this: ‘You are not barren,’” Obaseki stated. She highlighted the importance of seeing oneself as a potential and proud mother of children who will come in God’s time, regardless of current hardships.

Betsy Obaseki also noted that being fruitful extends beyond biological childbearing. “My contributions to society have gone beyond the biological aspect of motherhood. Being fruitful is not limited to childbearing. It is about impacting lives and creating positive change in society,” she added.

This response aims to address and correct the misconceptions surrounding her family’s personal life, reinforcing that their value and contributions go beyond conventional measures of success and fulfillment.
