Falana Clarifies: Joe Ajaero’s DSS Arrest Not Related to Police Invitation

Falana Clarifies Ajaero’s Arrest by DSS, Disconnecting it from Police Summons

Femi Falana, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and legal counsel to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has clarified that Joe Ajaero’s DSS arrest had no connection to a prior police invitation. Ajaero, who is the current President of the NLC, was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday morning, an event that sparked widespread interest.

The police had earlier summoned Ajaero over an alleged “threat to public peace,” but this invitation was later postponed. However, his subsequent arrest by DSS operatives, which occurred while he was en route to London for the TUC Conference, raised questions. Addressing the situation, Falana stated that Joe Ajaero’s DSS arrest was unrelated to the earlier police inquiry, confirming that the two incidents were not linked.

Falana, speaking from Abuja, disclosed, “The invitation to Comrade Joe Ajaero by the police was rescheduled last week. After communicating with police authorities, it became clear that his arrest had no connection to their invitation.”

According to Falana, no official reason was provided by the DSS for the arrest, leaving many to speculate about the real motivations behind the move.

Ajaero’s sudden detention came as he was preparing to travel to the United Kingdom to attend the ongoing TUC Conference. Joe Ajaero’s DSS arrest has prompted reactions from various stakeholders, some viewing it as an attempt to silence a key labor leader.

More details about the case are expected to emerge as the situation develops.
