Air Peace denies involvement in Ajaero’s arrest following widespread speculation about the airline’s role in the recent detention of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero. The airline has strongly distanced itself from the incident, which took place at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as Ajaero was on his way to the United Kingdom for official duties.
In response to media reports suggesting a connection between the airline and the arrest, Air Peace issued a statement clarifying its position. According to Omotade Makinwa, the airline’s spokesperson, the allegations stem from a petition the airline filed over a year ago regarding disruptions caused by the NLC. Despite the existence of the petition, Makinwa emphasized that Air Peace had no involvement in Ajaero’s recent detention.
The Air Peace denies involvement in Ajaero’s arrest claims emerged after reports linked the airline to the actions of the Department of State Service (DSS). Makinwa explained that the petition filed in 2023 concerned disruptions to Air Peace’s operations, which occurred during a conflict between the NLC and the Imo State Government. The labor union’s actions had significantly impacted the airline, leading to financial losses and travel disruptions for passengers.
Air Peace noted that while it had initially submitted the petition to the police, it had since withdrawn the complaint after reaching an amicable settlement with the NLC. The spokesperson reiterated that the airline had no current grievances with the NLC and regretted the negative publicity the reports had generated.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Air Peace’s commitment to maintaining a positive working relationship with the NLC and emphasized that the Air Peace denies involvement in Ajaero’s arrest, despite the media reports suggesting otherwise.
