APC Leader Apologizes to Police for Misconduct During Press Briefing Ahead of Edo Elections

Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, the South South Zonal Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally apologized to the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as inappropriate conduct during a recent press briefing. In the lead-up to the September 21 gubernatorial election in Edo State, Agbomhere, who holds the rank of Supernumerary Chief Superintendent of Police, addressed the press while dressed in police uniform. This act caused an embarrassment to the police, prompting his public apology.

Clarifying Intentions and Personal Opinions

In his statement, Agbomhere emphasized that his comments during the press briefing were purely personal views and did not represent the official stance of the Nigeria Police. He acknowledged that while wearing the police uniform, he should have exercised more caution. Agbomhere added, “The embarrassment caused was unintentional and deeply regretted. The opinions expressed were mine, falling under my constitutionally guaranteed rights to free speech and association.”

Concerns Over Edo Governance

A vocal critic of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, Agbomhere expressed his concerns about the governance in the state, citing recent violent incidents, including the death of a police officer attached to the APC’s candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. Agbomhere also condemned the refusal of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate to sign a peace accord ahead of the election, raising concerns about potential threats to the state’s security.

Commitment to Democracy

In his apology, Agbomhere reaffirmed his dedication to democracy and human rights, stating that his involvement in numerous professional organizations reflects his passion for peace and good governance in Nigeria. He called on Edo voters to support APC’s candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who he believes can provide stable and fair leadership for the state.

As the election approaches, Agbomhere’s apology aims to clear the air and redirect focus to the pressing issues surrounding Edo’s future leadership.
