The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results for the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), revealing that over 60% of candidates secured credits in five subjects, including both English Language and Mathematics. This marks a notable achievement for this year’s examination cohort.
According to NECO’s latest update, of the 828,284 students who participated, 60.55% achieved at least five credits. This translates to approximately 502,292 candidates meeting this benchmark out of the total 828,284. The announcement was made in Minna by NECO Registrar Dantani Wushishi, who described the results as among the best in recent years.
The examination saw a total of 1,376,423 candidates, with 706,950 males and 669,473 females registered. Wushishi highlighted that this year’s results, released 55 days after the final exam, are consistent with last year’s performance, indicating a stable standard in academic achievements.
Furthermore, the NECO registrar provided details on special needs candidates, reporting 1,542 such students, including those with hearing impairments, visual impairments, and other conditions. In terms of examination malpractice, there was a significant decrease this year, with 8,437 candidates involved, a 30.1% reduction from the previous year’s figure.
This year’s SSCE results reflect positively on the overall performance and integrity of the examination process, contributing to the ongoing improvement in Nigeria’s educational outcomes.
