Enugu Elections Plunge Into Controversy Over Missing Result Sheets

The Enugu elections have been marred by controversy as key political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), raised concerns over the absence of result sheets at polling units. The missing documents have delayed voting and led to widespread protests.

In a tense atmosphere, the Enugu elections were overshadowed by allegations surrounding missing result sheets. Representatives from APC and LP refused to proceed with voting at several polling units until the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) produced the required documents. An APC agent, speaking anonymously, emphasized, “There will be no election without result sheets,” echoing the frustrations felt across the political spectrum.

At polling units located in Christ Church, Enugu South Council, election officials from ENSIEC arrived late, around 9:40 a.m., only to be met with protests from political party agents. Similar reports emerged from other areas, with APGA’s Acting Chairman, Ekene Uzodimma, stating that several polling units in Awgu Ward 9 had not received any materials by 11 a.m.

The absence of result sheets led to widespread disruption. In Udi Council Area, APGA’s chairmanship candidate, Chukwuemeka Ochi, reported that many polling units were still waiting for election materials. As tensions continued to rise, low voter turnout was observed across Enugu South Council, adding to the already chaotic situation.
