Monday Okpebholo Clinches Victory in Edo Governorship Election for APC

In a keenly contested election, Monday Okpebholo wins the Edo governorship election, bringing the All Progressives Congress (APC) into power in the state. The APC candidate secured 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes. Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata trailed behind with 22,763 votes.

The official results were announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Kuta, at the collation center in Benin City. Kuta declared that Monday Okpebholo wins the Edo governorship election, having met all the legal requirements, and is officially the governor-elect of Edo State.

The election results reflect the APC’s stronghold in Edo North, where the party has traditionally enjoyed widespread support. In contrast, PDP’s influence remained significant in Edo Central and Edo South. Okpebholo’s success underscores the strategic efforts of the APC to secure dominance in Edo State.

The local government results highlight Okpebholo’s impressive performance, particularly in Akoko Edo, where he secured 34,847 votes, and Oredo, where he earned 30,780 votes. Despite strong competition, Monday Okpebholo’s win solidifies APC’s position in the political landscape of Edo State, marking a pivotal shift in power.
