The Kogi State House of Assembly calls for the immediate removal of EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede, following allegations of undue persecution of former Governor Yahaya Bello, while affirming that no state funds are missing.
The Kogi State House of Assembly has made a bold move, calling for the immediate removal of EFCC Chair, Olukoyede, over what they described as unjust persecution of the state’s former Governor, Yahaya Bello. During a heated plenary session in Lokoja, the lawmakers condemned the actions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and accused them of attempting to discredit the state government without valid grounds.
The Assembly, in a motion moved by Hon. Akus Lawal of Ankpa 1 Constituency and seconded by Hon. Jacob Olawunmi of Mopamuro Constituency, insisted that Kogi Assembly demands removal of EFCC Chair because of his involvement in what they termed a targeted attack against both former Governor Yahaya Bello and the current administration led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. According to the lawmakers, the EFCC’s recent raid on the Kogi State Government Lodge was not just an attack on the governor but an affront to the entire people of Kogi.
Furthermore, the lawmakers accused the EFCC of an assassination attempt on both the former and current governors, stating that the prolonged persecution of Yahaya Bello must come to an end. Hon. Olawunmi emphasized that the state’s audited financial reports had been consistently published, and there is no evidence of missing funds to justify the EFCC’s “witch-hunt.”
The Assembly’s resolution sends a clear message to the EFCC, as Kogi Assembly demands removal of EFCC Chair Olukoyede and urges the federal government to intervene in what they perceive as an unjust campaign against the state. The lawmakers maintain that no state money is missing, and they will not tolerate any further attempts to undermine the leadership of Kogi State.
