IPOB Enforces Ban on Independence Day Events in South-East Nigeria

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has prohibited any activities related to Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration across the South-East, warning residents against participation

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a strict ban on all forms of celebrations for Nigeria’s Independence Day across the South-East region. In a statement released by the group, they reiterated that any individual caught engaging in such activities would be regarded as an enemy of the people. IPOB bans Independence Day celebration, highlighting the group’s strong opposition to the current union between the South-East and the Nigerian state.

Although IPOB acknowledged that some prominent Igbo figures were involved in securing Nigeria’s independence from Britain, the group insists that the union has been detrimental to the Igbo people. IPOB bans Independence Day celebration globally for Biafrans, encouraging them to continue their daily activities or remain indoors, but not to take part in any events related to the independence of Nigeria.

Furthermore, the group reaffirmed its commitment to the restoration of Biafra as a sovereign state, viewing the continued association with Nigeria as an ongoing injustice. The statement emphasized that IPOB bans Independence Day celebration in a bid to push for a unified Biafra, free from the struggles and bloodshed that have marked the country’s history.
