Federal Government Sets up 5-Man Panel. Initiates Investigation into Allegations Surrounding Bobrisky and Correctional Officers

The Bobrisky investigation panel was inaugurated by the Federal Government to examine serious allegations surrounding corruption and misconduct within the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS). The panel will focus on claims that some correctional personnel provided special accommodations for convicted cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, launched the Bobrisky investigation panel on Monday in Abuja, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability. The panel’s primary task is to investigate corruption, mistreatment of inmates, and the recent allegations tied to Bobrisky’s accommodations.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo, who chairs the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), had earlier suspended officers at Kirikiri Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centers due to their alleged involvement in misconduct linked to Bobrisky. He stated that the Bobrisky investigation panel would provide detailed findings within two weeks, aiming to reform the NCoS through a fact-based and transparent process.

The panel, headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, is tasked with offering both short-term and long-term solutions to prevent future violations within the system. Dr. Ajani assured the public that the Bobrisky investigation panel would fulfill its mandate and uphold justice.

The committee members include legal experts, forensic researchers, and human rights advocates, all committed to ensuring the probe is fair, unbiased, and in line with legal protocols. The Bobrisky investigation panel is expected to recommend policy reforms and address systemic issues that have led to corruption and abuse in Nigeria’s correctional facilities.
