Man Arrested for Allegedly Attempting Ritual Sacrifice Using His Wife in Abia State

A man in Abia State has been apprehended for allegedly attacking his wife in an attempt to use her in a ritual, sparking outrage and government intervention

In a shocking incident, a man has been arrested in Abia State for the attempted ritual sacrifice of his wife. The Abia State government, through the office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, has charged Lawrence Uzor, a native of Umuchieze in Bende Local Government Area, for attempting to use his wife, Amarachi Lawrence, in a ritual.

Lawrence reportedly attacked his wife at their residence in Adiele Estate, Umueze-Ibeku, Umuahia North, where he inflicted severe injuries on her and allegedly attempted to pluck out her eyes. Following the assault, Amarachi was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia, where she is receiving medical care.

The wife of the Abia State Governor, Priscilla Otti, made her second visit to the family of the survivor. During her visit at the palace of Eze Allen Okpokiri, the traditional ruler of Emede Ancient Kingdom and Amarachi’s uncle, Mrs. Otti expressed deep concern for Amarachi’s condition. She emphasized that the state government is committed to providing long-term support to Amarachi, helping her rebuild her life and secure a sustainable livelihood.

Mrs. Otti reiterated that the attempted ritual sacrifice will not go unpunished. She reassured the public that those responsible for this heinous act will face the full force of the law, as the government of Abia State has a zero-tolerance policy towards gender-based violence.

“Justice will be served, and no such crime will be allowed to occur without consequence in this administration,” she stated firmly.

The state government has pledged to offer support to Amarachi, including assistance in starting a business to ensure her financial independence, as part of the broader commitment to protecting victims of gender-based violence and ensuring their rehabilitation.

This disturbing case highlights the urgent need to address ritual-related violence in society, and the Abia State government has vowed to take a stand against such crimes.
