Rivers Local Government Election Earns Praise from APC and APP Candidates

Candidates from both the APC and APP commend RSIEC for its smooth conduct of the Rivers State Local Government elections, highlighting peace and organization throughout the process.

During the recently concluded Rivers State Local Government elections, candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Action Peoples Party (APP) praised the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) for its impressive conduct of the election. The RSIEC Rivers LGA election was hailed as well-coordinated, peaceful, and far better than many had anticipated.

Chief Emeka Beke, the Chairman of the APC in Rivers State, expressed satisfaction after casting his vote in Emohua Local Government Area. According to him, the RSIEC Rivers LGA election was calm and efficiently managed, with voters conducting themselves responsibly despite the absence of security personnel. “Election is going on peacefully without security men, but the election is calm. This election decides who governs the people at the grassroots level,” Beke said. He added that voter turnout was impressive, and the entire process seemed to be progressing without any major issues.

Beke also condemned the burning of a factional APC office belonging to Chief Tony Okocha, distancing himself and the party from the incident. He stressed that violent acts like these have no place in the democratic process and should be condemned in all forms.

Similarly, the Rivers State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Prince Charles Beke, expressed his appreciation for the efficient organization of the election. After casting his vote, he commended RSIEC, stating that the RSIEC Rivers LGA election was peaceful and timely, with no reports of violence. “The elections are peaceful in this unit. Voting started early, and it has been peaceful. We don’t have any crisis,” he noted.

Adding to the praises for RSIEC was Barrister Israel Abosi, the Action Peoples Party Chairmanship candidate for Ikwerre Local Government Area. Abosi awarded RSIEC a score of 95%, noting that the commission had exceeded expectations. Reflecting on the history of elections in the region, which were often marred by conflict, Abosi described the RSIEC Rivers LGA election as a refreshing change. “Ikwerre Local Government has always been seen as a battlefield when it comes to elections, but today, the experience was good,” he remarked.

The overall sentiment from both political camps was that the RSIEC Rivers LGA election had set a positive precedent for future elections, with voters able to exercise their democratic rights in a safe and orderly manner. The candidates’ recognition of RSIEC’s efficiency further underscored the importance of a well-organized electoral process, where the focus remains on fairness and peaceful conduct at the grassroots level.

As the results of the RSIEC Rivers LGA election continue to unfold, the widespread commendation from political stakeholders suggests that the state’s electoral process is moving in the right direction.
