8,000 NNPP Members Defect to Labour Party in Kaduna

In a major political shift, thousands of NNPP members, led by Tinok Andrew Nok, have joined the Labour Party ahead of the upcoming local government elections in Kaduna

In a major boost for the Labour Party in Kaduna, over 8,000 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have defected to the Labour Party. The mass defection, which took place on Saturday, was led by Tinok Andrew Nok, a senatorial aspirant in the 2023 general election.

Tinok, the younger sister of the late Prof. Andrew Nok, a former Kaduna State Commissioner of Education, expressed her confidence in the Labour Party, stating that the party’s ideals of honesty and service to the people aligned with her own. “My decision to join the Labour Party was strongly influenced by Senator Nnadi Usman, the National Caretaker Committee Chairman. I believe this platform will allow me to continue serving the people with integrity,” Tinok explained.

During the event, Jonathan Asake, the Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kaduna, welcomed Tinok and the NNPP defectors on behalf of Senator Nnadi Usman. He assured the crowd that the Labour Party is undergoing a transformation and will benefit greatly from Tinok’s experience. Asake urged her to play a pivotal role in strengthening the party in Kaduna and contribute to its nationwide growth.

The occasion, which drew a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters, also featured the presentation of the Labour Party flags to signify the party’s readiness for the October 19 local government elections. Tinok’s defection is seen as a strategic move that could reshape the political landscape in Kaduna.

Political analysts are already speculating that this shift in allegiance will significantly impact the balance of power in the state, with the Labour Party poised to challenge the dominance of other parties. As the local government elections draw closer, attention is turning to how the Labour Party will perform, bolstered by its growing base of supporters.

Earlier, Mr. Yusuf Solomon Danbaki, the Kaduna State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Labour Party, assured the party’s candidates that they have the full support of the party’s leadership as they head into the local elections.

The defection of such a large group of NNPP members represents a significant win for the Labour Party as it continues to build momentum in Kaduna and beyond.
