The Peoples Democratic Party has appointed Yayari Ahmed Mohammed as the new acting National Chairman amid ongoing internal crises
The leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken another dramatic turn as a faction has appointed Yayari Ahmed Mohammed as the new acting National Chairman. The announcement came on Friday after the integrity faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) made the decision in response to ongoing disputes within the party.
The PDP faction appoints the new acting National Chairman following the suspension of several key members, including Umar Damagum, the previous acting chairman, and National Secretary Sam Anyanwu. This decision came shortly after Damagum’s NWC suspended National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade SAN and National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba for alleged anti-party activities.
In a statement released by the integrity faction, Ologunagba declared that the appointment of Mohammed was in line with the amended 2017 PDP constitution. The PDP faction appoints new acting National Chairman in a bid to stabilize its leadership ahead of the party’s upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for October 24, 2024.
The internal power struggle within the PDP has shown no signs of abating, with both sides issuing suspensions and appointments in quick succession. The PDP faction appoints new acting National Chairman, urging members and stakeholders to remain focused amid the turbulence as they prepare for future critical decisions in the party.
