Aba Businesses Thrive as Infrastructure Sees Major Upgrades

Aba businesses are experiencing significant growth, thanks to ongoing infrastructure improvements in the city. Under Governor Alex Otti’s leadership, these developments are reshaping the commercial landscape of Abia State’s most prominent business hub. This transformation has enhanced the ease of doing business, attracting investors and ensuring that Aba’s bustling markets, like Ariaria International and Ekeoha Shopping Centre, meet modern standards.

Prior to these infrastructure improvements, Aba businesses struggled with issues such as dilapidated roads, waterlogged areas, and inconsistent power supply. The new administration has taken bold steps to resolve these problems by rehabilitating major roads and improving electricity access. This focus on infrastructure is aimed at creating a conducive business environment for local entrepreneurs and international traders who frequent the city’s large markets.

Market Remodeling Initiatives
Aba’s iconic markets are undergoing a comprehensive remodeling process, starting with major hubs such as Ariaria International Market, Ahia Ohuru, and Eke Oha Shopping Centre. This is part of a broader urban renewal initiative aimed at modernizing these markets and making them safer and more accessible for traders and shoppers alike. The government’s intervention includes improving market structures and road connectivity, which will make transportation easier for traders coming from across Nigeria and West Africa.

Boost in Road and Power Infrastructure
Key stakeholders in Aba have acknowledged the improved road networks and enhanced electricity supply, particularly in the city center. According to Innocent Onwukwe, the managing director of a male tailoring company, road conditions have vastly improved, making it easier for vehicles to navigate the city. Similarly, businesses are reporting increased productivity due to better power availability, although some areas still face challenges.

A City Built for the Future
Looking ahead, Governor Otti’s administration aims to ensure that Aba can accommodate current and future demands. Uche Ukeje, general manager of the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA), mentioned that plans are underway to further expand and rejuvenate the city to meet future commercial needs. These improvements will include the provision of potable water, enhanced electricity, and permanent flood control solutions for areas like Ifeobara and Utatta ponds.

As the commercial hub of Abia State continues to transform, businesses in Aba are optimistic that these infrastructure developments will lay the foundation for long-term economic growth and prosperity.
