The Nigerian government has commenced the payment of the new minimum wage to federal civil servants, with effective date and modalities

Bawa Mokwa, the spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, confirmed this development during an exclusive interview with Daily Post on Thursday. He assured that workers would start receiving alerts of the updated minimum wage payments from that day.

However, Mokwa did not specify whether the payment would include arrears. He stated, “Federal Government civil servants will begin receiving the new minimum wage starting today, September 2024. The salary payment is today, but I’m not certain about the arrears.”

This update comes after the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, announced on Tuesday that the government had approved a review of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) in accordance with the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024.

The revised minimum wage of N70,000 was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 18, 2024, and was subsequently passed into law by the Senate.
