Deji Adeyanju’s scathing remarks accuse FCT Minister Wike of disloyalty to allies and political maneuvering for personal gain
Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has reignited the conversation on Wike’s political betrayal, sharply criticizing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a pattern of disloyalty and betrayal of key allies. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Adeyanju labeled Wike as a “serial betrayer,” accusing him of betraying influential political figures such as former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Rivers State governors Peter Odili and Rotimi Amaechi.
Adeyanju’s criticism did not end there. He controversially claimed that popular Nigerian singer Portable demonstrated more loyalty than Wike. He stated, “Unlike Portable, who values those who help him, Wike’s political betrayal of his benefactors has been consistent and far-reaching. He has turned against everyone who supported him during his rise to power.”
The minister, once a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has faced public scrutiny since his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join President Bola Tinubu’s administration. This move, according to Adeyanju, underscores Wike’s alleged opportunistic tendencies. “Even President Tinubu, despite his political astuteness, is dealing with Wike cautiously because Wike’s political betrayal is a known pattern,” Adeyanju added.
The activist also accused Wike of deceiving the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the 2023 elections. “Wike pretended to support Obi while sabotaging him behind the scenes,” he said, pointing to what he called a deliberate attempt to mislead political allies for personal gain.
Adeyanju’s comments come in the wake of a public spat between the two. Wike had previously dismissed Adeyanju as “jobless” during a press briefing, claiming that Adeyanju once approached him for a political position within the PDP, which he declined. Wike further labeled Adeyanju’s activism as a ploy for relevance.
The ongoing tension between Wike and Adeyanju sheds light on deeper concerns about Wike’s political betrayal and loyalty, raising questions about his alliances and long-term strategies within the APC. Observers suggest that Wike’s recent actions could alienate him further from allies and opponents alike, potentially impacting his influence as FCT Minister.
