Peace Mass Transit Clarifies Viral Incident on Benue Bus Breakdown

The management of Peace Mass Transit has issued an official response to a viral video claiming passengers were asked to contribute money following a bus breakdown near Otukpa, Benue State. The incident, which occurred on November 8, 2024, involved a bus (PMT 1678) traveling from Mararaba to Enugu. Peace Mass Transit has since confirmed that no passenger contributions were required or collected during the mechanical issue, countering claims made in the viral footage.

The Peace Mass Transit bus breakdown gained widespread attention on social media, prompting the company to conduct a detailed investigation. According to the findings, while some passengers suggested contributing ₦1,000 each to expedite repairs, the driver declined the offer in line with company policy. Instead, the company took full responsibility for covering the repair costs.

Swift Actions Taken to Resolve the Breakdown

Peace Mass Transit disclosed that its management promptly approved ₦12,000 for purchasing a replacement part (center bearing) to resolve the Peace Mass Transit bus breakdown. The funds were sent directly to the driver, who confirmed receipt, ensuring repairs were completed swiftly.

The Mararaba branch manager also verified that the payment was processed without delay, allowing the passengers to continue their journey. The young man who posted the viral video and other passengers successfully arrived at their destination aboard the same bus after the repair.

Call for Retraction and Apology

Peace Mass Transit has requested the individual who shared the video to retract the false claims and issue an apology within 72 hours. The company stressed that it would not tolerate the use of its name for misinformation or social media sensationalism.

“We shall not allow any person to use our hard-earned name to attract followership to their social media pages,” the management stated.

Despite the Peace Mass Transit bus breakdown, the company reaffirmed its commitment to providing reliable and customer-focused services. Management expressed regret for any inconvenience the incident may have caused and reassured customers of its dedication to improving operations.
