Peter Obi Appoints Yunusa Tanko to Lead Obidient Movement Worldwide

In a significant move aimed at strengthening the global reach of the Obidient Movement, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has appointed Yunusa Tanko as the interim national coordinator of the movement. This decision marks a pivotal moment in the expansion of the Obidient Movement, reflecting a strategic focus on inclusivity and leadership from all regions of Nigeria.

Peter Obi, in an X spaces engagement on Tuesday, unveiled Tanko’s appointment, highlighting that the decision followed a broad consensus to entrust this crucial role to a leader from the northern region. The focus keyphrase, Obidient Movement, underpinned Obi’s emphasis on ensuring that the movement’s leadership reflects the diverse voices and regions within the country. Tanko’s proven track record in political leadership and his effective communication skills were key factors in his selection.

Obi shared that this appointment is part of a broader strategy to establish a robust structure for the Obidient Movement. “Last week, I initiated a series of engagements to lay the foundation for this structure,” Obi explained. He further noted that the process involved setting up a dedicated team to manage these discussions and consultations. Through extensive feedback and nominations from key stakeholders within the Obidient Movement, Tanko emerged as the most recommended candidate to lead this global initiative.

The selection of Yunusa Tanko, who previously served as the media director and spokesman for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, underscores his deep involvement in the movement’s growth and his commitment to its ideals. Tanko’s political journey has been marked by significant leadership roles, including his tenure as the chair of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in 2015 and his candidacy for the presidency under the National Conscience Party in 2019.

Peter Obi was clear in stating that all current appointments, including Tanko’s, are on an interim basis as the movement continues to develop its comprehensive structure. “We have over one million leadership positions to fill as we work towards building a Nigeria that works for everyone,” Obi remarked, urging thoughtful consideration in the nomination of leaders within the Obidient Movement.

As the movement gains momentum worldwide, Tanko’s leadership is expected to play a crucial role in unifying and directing efforts across various regions. His experience and dedication to the cause are anticipated to drive the Obidient Movement towards achieving its broader goals of political reform and national development.

This strategic appointment not only strengthens the leadership of the Obidient Movement but also reinforces Peter Obi’s commitment to building an inclusive and dynamic political movement that resonates with Nigerians at home and abroad.
