Retirement of Bishops Abioye and Aremu: A Milestone in Living Faith Church History
In October 2024, the Living Faith Church Worldwide will witness a momentous occasion as Bishops Abioye and Aremu retire after over three decades of faithful service. This milestone marks the first time pastors from the church will be celebrated publicly for their meritorious contributions, setting a new precedent in the organization’s history.
Bishop David Olatunji Abioye, who has served alongside Bishop David Oyedepo since 1979, is scheduled for his valedictory service in Lokogoma, Abuja, on October 18, 2024. Bishop Thomas Aremu, another key figure in the ministry, will have his retirement ceremony at LFC Basorun, Ibadan, on October 15, 2024. Together, these bishops have been pillars of the Living Faith Church, contributing to its growth and spiritual leadership.
The retirement of Bishops Abioye and Aremu is governed by the revised mandate of the church, which now places the retirement age at 58, down from the previous 60 years. However, Bishop Abioye, aged 63, and Bishop Aremu, aged 67, have both exceeded this threshold, reflecting their extended commitment to the church’s mission. Notably, this change signifies a shift in the church’s leadership structure, as future leaders will serve a maximum of two seven-year terms, with the church’s founder, Bishop Oyedepo, being the only one granted a lifetime role.
Bishop Abioye’s journey within the ministry began in 1987 when he was sent to pastor one of the church’s five pioneer branches. His consecration in 1993 made him the youngest bishop in the Living Faith Church’s history. Bishop Aremu, who transitioned from a career as an accountant to full-time ministry, has remained a steadfast figure, being one of the seven bishops consecrated in 1999 and the only one still active.
This retirement of Bishops Abioye and Aremu not only reflects their personal legacies but also the Living Faith Church’s evolving framework. With the new retirement guidelines in place, the church is poised for its next phase of leadership and growth, ensuring a structured and dynamic future for its global congregation.
As the valedictory services approach, members of the Living Faith Church and the public alike prepare to honor these two distinguished leaders whose dedication has helped shape the church’s spiritual direction.
